Martlets Force Numerous Five-Set Matches Against a Formidable Opponent

Westminster hosted Deerfield right before the impending snowstorm. The match was much closer than the final score indicated, with four matches coming down to the fifth and decisive game. Matthew Westlake '22, Will Warner '22 and Oliver Olson '23 were on the losing end of those matches, but were valiant in defeat. Grand Tantichot '22 continued his fine play, winning his five-setter in a thrilling 12-10 final game. Other close, well-fought matches included Connor Eddy '21, Max Hong '22 and Oliver Fenner '22. Eddy lost his second game 12-10, and Hong and Fenner both lost their fourth game by the same score. A few points going the other way would have changed the direction of those matches. The match of the day belonged to Jerry Wang '23, who started strong by winning the first two games, lost by a mere two points in the third and then eked out a 12-10 nail-biter to clinch the victory.
