Fall Term Awards Ceremony

The achievements of the fall term were celebrated at an awards ceremony Dec. 6 in Werner Centennial Center.

Headmaster Bill Philip welcomed everyone back from Thanksgiving break and extended appreciation for campuswide assistance navigating the recent snowstorm.

Director of Student Life Tony Griffith gave remarks about the importance of tangible and intangible items that can be attached to achievements. “How can you define success?” he asked the audience. He spoke about kindness as defined by Aristotle and the importance of acknowledging the unacknowledged. He cited those who help others in the dining hall with questions about an academic subject, those who offer a hand to an opponent getting up on the field, athletes who make a goal and point to those who assisted with the goal, and classmates who offer support to those in distress. “I saw you and I know you,” he said. He emphasized seeing kindness as “something you do as a way of life” and closed by saying, “Today we celebrate the measurables, but never forget the humble acts of kindness that support all of these tangible achievements.”
