Whiffenpoofs Sing in Chapel

Members of the 2020 Whiffenpoofs, the world’s oldest and best-known collegiate a cappella group, sang in chapel Oct. 1 to a very enthusiastic school community. The group, which was founded in 1909, performs more than 200 concerts across six continents each year, singing a mixture of old Yale tunes, jazz standards and other hits from across the decades.
 
During the Westminster chapel service, the Whiffenpoofs introduced themselves and sang numerous songs, among them “Haven’t Met You Yet,” “Rainbow Connection,” “Operator” and the “House of the Rising Son.” Former headmaster Don Werner, a Whiffenpoof alumnus, joined them in their closing song, the “Whiffenpoof Song.” Among those in the audience was former faculty member Ann Gilman, who served as organist, choir accompanist, voice coach, music director for Dramat and choral arranger at Westminster for 45 years.
