First Victory for the Martlets

On a beautiful spring day in Lakeville, the Martlets took on the Bearcats in what would prove to be a close match. The first win was the No. 2 doubles team of Alex Buerck '21 and Annie Brewer '21. Next were successive victories for No. 1 singles Kristina Oganyan '22 and then Mairead DeFronzo '20 at No. 4 singles. The players left on the courts were locked in close battles. Playing well and consistently at No. 3 singles but eventually losing to a strong opponent was Sofia Daniele '22. Both the doubles teams of Sofia Raymond '19 and Lily Carrel '19 playing No. 1, as well as Izzy Bailey '21 and Elena McGuigan '21 playing at No. 3 were defeated in close matches. Chloe Ferro '20 and Lizzy McCoy '20 played well at No. 4 doubles and won easily. Whether the match was a tie or a win came down to an exciting match by Olivia Olney '22. The games went back and forth until an 8-8 tie forced a tiebreak. At one point in the tiebreak Olney was down 2-5, but came back to win a thriller 8-6. The girls look forward to a rematch on Williams Hill in May.
