Martlets Play Hard But Drop Match to Tigers

On what was the prettiest day of the spring thus far, Westminster welcomed the Tigers of Suffield Academy. The day started with a very competitive doubles round as Grant McCargo '21 and Ethan Na '19 won handily 8-4 at No. 2 doubles. But after the team of Scott Lee '20 and Scoobi Wilson '19 dropped their match at No. 3 doubles, it came down to Azat Mukhametkulov '19 and Carl Ekholm '19. The No. 1 doubles team fell behind 2-5 but evened the score at 7-7 before falling 7-9. The critical doubles point would prove to be a huge factor in the match. In singles play, Na and McCargo won in straight sets while Mukhametkulov played the match of the day with a thrilling three-set victory at No. 1. Nate Chaves '19 fought valiantly at No. 6 but could not manage to pull out his match after a third set super tiebreaker. Final score Suffield 4 - Westminster 3. Next up, Westminster hosts The Gunnery on April 20.
