A Team Effort

Westminster had a great team effort, winning eight of nine scoring matches, and most handily. The team got off to a great start as it swept the doubles matches to earn a quick point. Mac Dye '20 and Charlie Crowther '21 took the No. 1 match 8-3; Eddie Shin '21 and John Clofine '21 dominated the No. 2 contest at 8-1, and the Fifth Form tandem of Jake Monroe and Matt Lewin won 8-2. Westminster stayed hot and won five of six singles matches. Crowther took a commanding lead in the No. 1 match and hung on in the second set to win 6-1, 6-4. Shin teed off on second serves and won 6-3, 6-3. Dye used a strong first serve and a brutal change-of-pace cut backhand to win 6-4, 6-1. Monroe outlasted his opponent to win in straight sets in a match that saw many points last for 20 or 30 strokes. Lewin, featuring a strong net game, battled back from a disappointing first-set tiebreaker loss to win 5-7, 6-1, (10-7). Overall it was a great way to start the Hill Holiday and represented a nice bounce-back from last week's loss to Choate. The team hopes and expects to maintain the momentum Saturday against Pomfret.
