Martlets Beat the Pelicans

Westminster played the first in a series against the Pelicans from across town Jan. 19. After a few good practices and looking to capitalize on the bit of momentum gained from the Canterbury win, this Loomis game was very important heading into a stretch of heavy games during the next two weeks. The game was tight from the opening face off, and both teams were ready to compete. Westminster played well on the defensive side of the puck, limiting Loomis to low percentage opportunities, managing the middle of the ice and blocking shots. Jordie McKenna ‘19 scored the lone goal of the afternoon on a power play late in the first period. From there the game was a back and forth affair with the Martlets getting the higher volume of grade-A scoring chances. Unfortunately, the puck didn’t find the back of the net again, but Westminster was able to hold on for the win. Ian Shane ‘20 turned away 22 to get the shutout. The Martlets head to AOF on Monday.
