Tough Loss for the Martlets

The team headed out to Hotchkiss for a tough Founders League battle. The game was quick from the start as Hotchkiss took every opportunity to put the puck on the net. Goalie Kayla Ireland ’22 come up big in the first few to help Westminster make a counter attack. With a 1-0 deficit after the first, the Martlets committed to the team goal of outshooting their opponent in the second. It took the team the first few to find its tempo again, but suddenly Abby Munger ’20 stepped up to cause a turnover. Chaos ensued in front of the Hotchkiss net, even with the puck sitting on the crease, Westminster could not put it home. The momentum shifted again as Westminster took a penalty that resulted in a second power play goal for Hotchkiss. By the end of the second, Westminster had more shots, but was also trailing 2-0. The team took to the ice in the third ready to make each minute count, but a penalty just minutes in resulted in another power play goal for Hotchkiss. The team battled till the end, but despite more key chances in front, could not get on the board. The game was a valuable lesson in staying out of the box and in hitting the net. The team will get to work on these elements on Monday as it prepares for a rematch with Williston on Wednesday.
