Plant Manager

Anticipated Start Date: May 2019

The following is a description of the duties of the Plant Manager at Westminster School. The position requires that a person have the physical dexterity to be able to move freely about the campus property and perform the essential duties listed below. Supervisory experience is required. A good working knowledge of computer basics is necessary as well as experience with building automation systems, electronic door hardware systems, work order systems and fire and security alarm systems. Candidates must have excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects at one time. Experience with construction methods, roofing, HVAC systems, door and window hardware and the ability to read blueprints is necessary. A willingness and ability to work with a variety of constituents within the school community is required. The position reports to the CFO. A current motor vehicle operator’s license and reliable transportation to the workplace is required. Due to the necessary daily coverage required at the school, holiday, nighttime and weekend work is required as part of the normal workweek. The school reserves the right to modify hours, duties and schedules when necessary.
 
Duties:
  • Oversee all maintenance of campus buildings, grounds and other property.
  • Manage trades custodial, security and grounds departments, including three managers. Perform employee performance reviews, employee discipline, hiring and promotions.
  • Oversee all preventative maintenance programs. Ability to do basic troubleshooting of building systems and alarm systems.
  • Participate in the planning, development and completion of capital improvement and new construction projects.
  • Manage the school’s asbestos, lead, mold and other environmental programs. Candidate must have or have the ability to become a certified designated person through the EPA self-study guide.
  • Manage all department OSHA and other school safety programs including all required training for staff employees.
  • Manage the schools motor vehicle fleet inspection and training programs.
  • Handle all local, state and federal environmental regulation programs.
  • Responsible for all life safety programs in campus buildings including conducting of routine fire drills, emergency preparedness drills, routine inspections of campus buildings for compliance with life safety requirements.
  • Participate in and support the school’s safety committee.
  • Coordinate all special events requirements and oversee set-ups and take-downs for those events.
  • Oversee all department budgets including major plant budget.
  • Participate in handling after-hours calls and be available for after-hours campus emergencies.
  • Coordinate and handle all contracts with outside vendors.
  • Position is at times “hands-on” and candidate needs to be able to perform the following duties, but not limited to those duties listed:
    • Ability to bend, stop, kneel, shovel snow and other materials for long periods of time.
    • Ability to lift, carry and set down items from delivery trucks and campus vehicles weighing up to 50 pounds.
    • Ability to work outside in a variety of climatic conditions.
    • Ability to carry items weighing up to 50 pounds up and down stairs.
    • Ability to climb ladders.
    • Ability to operate snow removal equipment.
  • Willingness and ability to interact with all constituents of the community on a professional level.
  • Ability to interact with local town officials when necessary.
