Westminster Shows Strong First Effort Against Berkshire

Rolling into the first game of the season with a short bench, Third Boys’ Hockey showed earnest grit, but ultimately came up short against a physical Berkshire team. Despite the best efforts of goalie Rich Mugler ’22 and a Martlet defense anchored by Beck Winsor ’21, Grant Pietri ’22, Owen Murphy ’22 and Justin Parsons ’20, Berkshire was able to pull ahead late in the first with a couple of fortunate bounces. The Martlets, however, did not let up, and after a back and forth second period, Nic Swahn ’22 found the back of the net off a beautiful entry play by Spencer Kwan ’22. After two more Berkshire power play goals late in the second, Pietri found the net on a shot from the point for one of his own midway through the third period. Mugler and Will Scott ’20 were solid in net throughout. The team will certainly look forward to seeing Berkshire again for a rematch at Jackson Rink later in the season.
