Girls Grab Win in Home Opener

It was a great start to the season for the Westminster girls, who traveled to Newport and came away with an exciting win in a true team effort, 86-77. Co-captain Alex Lin ‘19 led the way with wins in the 100 and 200 freestyle races, and she teamed up with Angelesia Ma ‘20, Dorka Nagy ‘19 and co-captain Alex Wolf ‘19 in the 200 freestyle relay. The Westminster team of Annie Brewer ‘21, India Lalor ‘21, Simonne Ponce ‘21 and Sydney Schuster ‘21 took second in that race, which put the meet in hand with three events remaining. Katherine Ashe ‘21 finished second in both the 200 IM and the 100 fly, and newcomer Campbell Swift ‘21 took second in the 100 backstroke. Wolf was second in the 50 free, Schuster finished runner up in the 500 free, and Ma took second in the 100 breaststroke. Sophia Coumantaros ‘21 swam a great race in the 100 fly to take third, and she was third in the 100 back as well. The Martlets depth was the key to the win. They compete again next Saturday in the KO Invitational at Trinity College.
