Martlets Lose a Nail-Biter

The Martlets faced Suffield Academy to open their 2018-2019 season losing 3-4 in a hotly contested match. In fact, the overall match was tied at three apiece with only one individual match still being played, the No. 3 match which saw the two feisty opponents trading games, until at the very end Gus Hartmann '20 narrowly missed a drop shot to lose 9-11 in the fifth and decisive game. Four of the individual matches went to five games with Suffield winning two of them and Westminster winning two. The teams also split two four-game matches. It doesn't get any tighter than this. The Martlets won three of the top four matches, but lost all three of the bottom matches. Coach Michael Cervas was pleased with the effort and never-say-die attitude of the boys and expects the team to make good progress as the season goes along.
