Lacrosse - First Girls'
May 23: Lacrosse - First Girls’ 10 vs Berkshire School 9
The Martlets ended the 2018 spring season with an exciting 10-9 win over the Berkshire Bears in Sheffield, Mass. on May 23, rounding out what was a fantastic, strong finish these last few weeks. Berkshire got on the board first, just 33 seconds in, but the Martlets responded, scoring two of their own, taking a brief lead. The two teams appeared to be evenly matched throughout the first half with the statistics for draw controls, turnovers and caused turnovers similar for each squad. When the teams broke for the half, Westminster trailed 4-5. The Martlets then turned it on, scoring off set plays and draw and dumps. Berkshire has moments of proving it could come back, but with great saves in the final minutes by goalie Ellie Bailey ‘21, Westminster was able to maintain possession and stifle a Berkshire comeback threat. Westminster thanks the First Girls’ team and the Sixth Formers who led the team on and off the field. Great season, Martlets!

Lacrosse - Second Boys'
May 23: Lacrosse - Second Boys’ 13 vs Hotchkiss School 10
Westminster braved a scorching spring afternoon as it faced off against the boys of Hotchkiss. Despite starting the game sluggish and letting up three consecutive goals, the boys came back to hold the Bearcats neck in neck, ending the half at 6-6. The boys quickly capitalized on their momentum, with promises such as Nate Stevens ’21 and Daniel Pinckney ’20 bringing the finals score to 13-10. Outstanding defensive play by Liam Seeley ’20 is not to be forgotten as the crease was guarded like a brick wall. The boys took the win and walked away from this season with heads held high.

Lacrosse - Third Boys'
May 23: Lacrosse - Third Boys' 6 vs Avon Old Farms School 7

Tennis - First Girls'
May 23: Tennis - First Girls’ 5 vs Berkshire School 4
With the hype of New Englands behind them and two days off from practice due to the spring formal and the weather, the Martlets didn't play their best tennis of the season but got the team win nonetheless. The Black and Gold earned fairly easy wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles and then also did well in the middle of the singles ladder winning at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5. Lauren Way '20 played as reliably as she has all season looking strong with her 8-1 victory. Ellie Suit '20 held off a resurging Bear to get her 8-3 win. And Maggie Chaves '19 clinched the win also by an 8-3 margin. The Martlets have had a fantastic season, thanks in large part to the leadership of Sixth Form captains Mary Kille and Nat Wilson. These girls will surely be missed but with most of the team returning for 2019, there is much excitement for the future.

Tennis - First Boys'
May 23: Tennis - First Boys’ 7 vs Berkshire School 0
On Senior Day, the boys’ tennis team honored Sixth Formers Connor Seeley (captain), Nikola Kostic (captain) and Chris Whipple with a sweep of visiting Berkshire. It was hot and breezy and the boys won every set to complete the season. Thank you to all of the parents who helped coordinate for the day, especially Nikki Manderlink, Jennifer Na and Madeleine Ekholm.

Tennis - Second Girls'
May 23: Tennis - Second Girls’ 2 vs Berkshire School 5
Despite missing the No. 3 player, Second Girls’ Tennis fought hard and almost defeated a strong Berkshire team. Westminster’s No. 1 (Annabel Bradley ’19 and Diana Tsibikova ‘21) and No. 2 (Rosy Sieglaff ’18 and Jacq Autorino ‘20) doubles teams fought hard and won their matches. Westminster lost two very close singles matches in tiebreakers.

Tennis - Second Boys'

It was a wonderful day for the boys as they finished the season with a respectable 6-3 record.
