How To Apply For Financial Aid

Westminster believes that the cost of an independent school education should not be a deterrent to prospective families. The Director of Financial Aid, Kelly Babbidge, will guide families through the process of applying for financial aid to ensure that Westminster welcomes students who embody the school’s core values of Community, Character, Balance and Involvement, regardless of their family’s ability to pay. Thanks to the generosity of alumni, parents, and friends, Westminster's financial aid budget enables roughly one third of our student body to live, study and compete at one of the nation’s leading boarding schools.

We encourage any family who feels they may need financial assistance to apply for financial aid. Intended as a supplement to family resources, financial aid awards are made not only to families whose ability to pay school costs is extremely limited, but also to those who may need only a minor subsidy to meet tuition requirements. Furthermore, Westminster’s financial aid program is need-based and does not include merit, athletic or academic scholarships.

Westminster uses School and Student Services (SSS) to process our financial aid applications. SSS is a service of the National Association of Independent Schools. Based on the financial information families provide on the Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS), SSS will use a standard calculation to determine an estimated amount that families can contribute toward educational expenses. The Westminster Financial Aid Committee uses this estimation, in concert with supporting tax documentation, as a starting point that will aid in the determination of a fair and objective financial aid award.

New for the 2018-2019 application year, we no longer require 2017 tax returns to be completed and submitted by February.  Instead, we are requiring completed tax returns for the two previous years, 2015 and 2016.  Hopefully this relieves stress surrounding the financial aid process and gives families more time to complete their current year tax returns.

Thank you for your interest in Westminster.  Please contact us if you have any questions about financial aid or the application process.  We look forward to working with your family.
