Hartford Symphony Orchestra Series at Werner Centennial Center

The Hartford Symphony Orchestra (HSO) will perform three concerts in residence at Westminster School’s Werner Centennial Center during the symphony’s 2007-2008 season.

The “2007-2008 Westminster Series” will mark a return of the HSO to the Werner Centennial Center following a very successful series there last year.

The first concert in the series, “Beethoven’s First,” will take place Sept. 29 at 8 p.m. and will be conducted by HSO Music Director Edward Cumming. It will feature Robert Blocker at the piano and performances of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1 and Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 14.

The second concert, “A Soldier’s Tale,” also will be conducted by HSO Music Director Edward Cumming and will feature actor John McDonough. It will take place Nov. 17 at 8 p.m. and include performances of Revuelta's Ocho por Radio and Stravinsky’s L’histoire du Soldat.

The final concert in the series, “Mozart in Paris,” will be held May 31 at 8 p.m., and will feature concertmaster, conductor and violinist Leonid Sigal, and performances of Mozart’s Symphony No. 31, “Paris,” and Schubert’s Polonaise and Rondo, and Poulenc’s Sinfonietta.

“We are delighted that the Hartford Symphony will return to the Werner Centennial Center this season with a wonderful lineup of performances,” said Westminster’s Director of Theater Douglas Lind. "The 'Westminster Series' offers special opportunities to experience the renowned Hartford Symphony in a beautiful concert hall in the Farmington Valley.”
