Martlets Scrimmage at Choate

A beautiful day to kick off the fall XC season as the boys and girls XC teams traveled to Choate for the annual "scrimmage," a unique race in which runners are divided into veteran and novice categories. Today was a great time trial for what is yet to come, and some of our guys put up outstanding times alongside impressive firsts. Jakub McKinney '23 led the pack of Westminster runners, steady and controlled throughout the race. Not far behind, James O'Connell '25 took a whopping 7 whole minutes off his time from last year on the same course...what an outstanding mark of improvement! Novice runners Steven Chun '25 and Rhys Marschke also showed impressive resolve, neck and neck for the majority of the race and coming in just above 22 minutes in the latter race; further, a banner day to start this season with debut races for Harvey DeMovick '24, Mike Basich '26, and Julio Palomino Perez '23. Next week a group of boys travel to Canterbury for a varsity-only invite, looking forward to a week of cool temperatures, hard practices, and fast times! Go Martlets!
