Grandparents Day Brings Lots of Smiles to Campus

More than 200 grandparents of current students visited Westminster Sept. 25 for Grandparents Day. By all accounts, the annual event is one of the most delightful of the year, as grandparents attend classes, tour campus, attend chapel and eat lunch with their grandchildren. Some grandparents also stay for afternoon athletic contests.

Ryan Jainchill ’23 had four grandparents visiting, including Marty and Judy Gold GP ’23, and Nancy and Manny Jainchill GP ’23. Marty said they had a great time attending Ryan’s history and physics classes, noting the teachers made the subject matter very clear, and Nancy said she was impressed by the teachers.

Annette and Louis Tullo GP’22, who are from Southwick, Mass., and attended Grandparents Day last year, were visiting granddaughter Hailey Tullo ’22. They attended Hailey’s theater and French classes, and said they often visit campus because of their proximity. “The theater class was very interesting,” said Annette. And Louis commented, “It is great to see how teachers interact with students and the rapport they have.”

Thomas Weir GP’22, who lives in East Aurora, N.Y., was back for the second time, too. He attended global history and chemistry classes with grandson Jeremy Hopsicker ’22, and visited Jeremy’s room in Alumni House. Thomas said it was fun to see Jeremy’s growth from last year and how many students he now knows. “There is a nice sense of community evident when you are here,” he added.
