Horizons at Westminster

Horizons at Westminster is part of a national network of summer school programs. It is a six-week summer enrichment program that focuses on reading, math, problem-solving and real-life application of knowledge for students from Hartford, Connecticut. In addition to the academic focus of the program, the students take field trips, they enjoy recreational activities, and they learn how to swim. The program began in 2018 with one class of 18 first graders with a 5:1 teacher-student ratio. In 2019 a new first grade class was introduced to the program. In subsequent years, Horizons at Westminster will add an additional grade each year up to eighth grade.

The objective of the program is to build a “bridge” from one academic year to the next, to develop strong relationships between students, their peers and their teachers, to build confidence, and to form an essential life-long connection with learning.

Horizons at Westminster is the outgrowth of Westminster’s 18 year commitment to Hartford in the form of Westminster in Hartford, formerly known as the Westminster Crossroads Learning Program in Hartford (WCLP).
