Winter COVID-19 Protocols for Visitors

Westminster School COVID-19 Vaccination Policy and Testing Protocols
Westminster requires that all students, faculty and staff are fully vaccinated against COVID. The school does have a small number of community members who qualify for a state-allowed exemption and are unvaccinated. Unvaccinated community members are subject to special behavioral guidelines and regular testing.

Do not come to campus if you have any symptoms associated with COVID or have had a close contact with a positive case within the previous 14 days.

Mask Expectation for Campus Visitors
The Connecticut Department of Public Health recommends that all spectators remain masked when inside campus academic and athletic facilities, and we expect all campus guests to follow that mandate. For parents and family members, that expectation extends into the dormitories while on campus.

While masks are not required outdoors, visitors should remain distanced and avoid crowding while on campus. Be considerate of others’ space, even when outdoors, and especially if you or a family member is unvaccinated. Westminster students will be asked to sit in a designated student spectator section when attending an event. Please keep a safe distance from Westminster students who may be attending an event.

A point of vulnerability for the ongoing public health response to the COVID pandemic are children who are too young to qualify for vaccination. The Westminster campus is home to a number of young children, so all campus visitors are asked to follow similar caution and not to allow unvaccinated family members to be unmasked indoors with our students, even in off-campus situations.

Expectations of Athletic Opponents
Westminster expects that each opponent’s school population is sufficiently vaccinated against COVID-19 and will follow Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) and the Connecticut Department of Public Health guidance. Any unvaccinated athletes on opposing teams will be permitted to participate in athletic contests following state and federal guidance and are expected to be tested regularly, including shortly before competition.

Please note that only Westminster students and families will be allowed to attend home games at this time. Similar to the fall term, masks will be required for all athletic spectators, regardless of vaccination status, and students will be asked to sit separately from Westminster families attending contests.

Athletes and coaches are expected to remain masked during all competitions. The only exception is for athletes competing in swimming and diving competitions.

Any student or coach who tests positive may not travel to Westminster, nor should any player or coach who tests positive be near their team or on the sidelines until cleared for return by their health center. In the event that an opposing school has a positive case within a team, please contact Tim Joncas, Athletic Director.

If any student or coach on an athletic team tests positive, they will not play or travel with the team until they are cleared by the Westminster School Health Center. In the event of a positive test result involving a student-athlete or coach, Westminster will communicate with the athletic director of the opposing school scheduled to play the team affected.

Westminster will provide water jugs for visiting teams. Each team should bring their own water bottles. Locker room facilities will be provided but teams are encouraged to travel dressed for competition if possible.

Officials will follow the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) protocols policy.
