  • Tennis - Varsity Boys'

    2023 - 2024
    Head Coach: Nicholas Cary

Varsity Boys’ Tennis has been competitive in the highly-regarded Founders League and the team has come on strong the last few years. The 2022 season saw the team reach 10 wins for the first time in 20 years. The 2023 season, where the team went 13-4 overall, set recent records for the school. Notable results included a (tied) second-place finish at the Kingswood Oxford Invitational Tournament to open the season, fourth place at the SNETL invitational, a New England Class B qualification and a (tied) second-place Founders League finish. The team also participates in a preseason before the start of the spring term, which usually includes multiple fitness/gym sessions a day along with two hours of court time. The 2023 kicked off with an unforgettable “staycation” where around 10 team members stayed under one roof –– cooking for each other, playing board games, watching baseball, all while getting back on the court and in the gym. It is our goal that with hard work, focus, and playing for each other, results like these will become a mainstay each spring.

Nick Cary joined the team as its head coach in the 2020-2021 season. After serving as captain while playing at Tufts University and graduating in 2016, he competed in both semi-pro and ITF events from 2017 to 2019. He has also worked as a humanities instructor at Culver Academies in Indiana where he also coached the boys’ and girls’ varsity teams, and even went back to Tufts serving as the men’s assistant coach for two years before joining Westminster.

Recent tennis graduates have gone on to play either club or varsity tennis at the following programs: Southern Methodist University, Trinity College, Tulane University, University of Colorado – Boulder, Washington University - St. Louis and Wheaton College.

In the summer of 2013, Westminster’s 12 hard courts were resurfaced to match the blue courts of the U.S. Open with a picturesque viewing deck between courts three and four. The courts were then repainted during the summer of 2022. These striking courts support Westminster’s six competitive boys’ and girls’ teams.
